Global Stadium on hire – Manchester United Vs Chelsea!
Last night I had a dream; it was about the IT down turn and about an IT company called ITX - my ex-employer. When I’m trying to recollect my dream, I’m at my home town in a lush green paddy field, but devoid of any paddy and the surface is filled with lush green grass –an excellent Foot Ball ground. I can see a few village boys playing around, as they graze their buffalos. The ground is vast, around 1 to 2 KM radius and vast grasslands are spotted with buffalos gazing around. And no house is seen in the near vicinity.
While, in Bangalore the IT industry had almost shredded everybody and all are on the road hunting for some job or other to make a living. Every company is surviving on the last few employees and they are also under constant scrutiny and under intense pressure from the employer, that they will lose job anytime.
I’m one among the last few employees of ITX, breathing and gasping very frequently. As the Leader of the Team calls us for a meeting, our heart abnormally increases the rate at which it’s already beating. We got closer, he made the last announcement, we are under intense pressure and we need you to help us in these times of crises. And that we need each of you put in some money to work on a specific project we thought would save our company from turmoil. If you fail to do so, you can consider yourself to be not part of ITX, and leave the last job that you are holding on to.
I think, it was a group of at least 20 employees that he was announcing this decision to. He appeared himself very emotional and but very firm in his approach. He added, those of you who are willing to share the financial can stay, others can leave. As the time comes, I tried to be at my diplomatic best and decide to stay along with another colleague of mine –don’t exactly remember his name. I was actually not willing to share my finance with ITX but I was playing like a hypocrite. But, I think God made him realize that I’m deceiving. But then, by seeing the mere size of the team (just two of us), he announced, you can also leave. My heart pounced! I kept my hands on top of it to avoid fatal failure!
After the announcement, we as a group got into intense discussions among ourselves and many us of did feel that we didn’t support the organization we had worked for many years and that we should have done better, at least looked at other options to save the company. You know, the same dialogues that arise during a lesson learnt analysis discussions. That kept us looked down in shame!
When I looked around, I found that another group of people have gathered together around the same Leader and they are discussing on how to finance this venture and bring the company into profitability. The moment he announced, all of them were ready to finance and I found that all of them are the founder members of ITX. Surprisingly, not even a single person is from outside of this network.
As they stood by and clinging on each other shoulders, I heard the announcement, “ITX will invest in building huge stadiums”. In a fraction of a second, some of the best stadiums of the world glimpsed through my eyes; the oval shaped, well parched green grass carpeted stadiums.
I could see the energy, enthusiasm and will to succeed in all their faces. Information Technology is no longer the business domain of ITX. They are now known as the company of Foot Ball stadiums. They make money by having a world class stadium on hire. Fewer players, fewer employees, huge profits and enjoying games!
At his point in time, the CEO of ITX enters; he has become very weak and can’t speak much. He was trembling with fear and anxiety, he couldn’t utter a sentence and he said something that I don’t remember now. But it was truly inspiring. The moment his announcement came, everybody gasped with a sigh of relief. Oh! ITX has been saved and it’s going to be the company of choice for the years to come.
In the last few moments of my dream was filled with stadiums built by ITX and are earning huge amount of profits. Interestingly, all these stadiums are at my home town, where they have converted huge hills into stadiums, and each stadium has got international matches, in the likes of English premier league – Manchester United Vs Chelsea!
